Legacy

Origins and Early Milestones (Since 1977)

Emirates Electrical Engineering (EEE) traces its legacy to 1977, when the company began delivering high‑voltage power projects that laid the foundation for the UAE’s modern electricity network. Early works included the design, supply, and installation of high‑voltage overhead lines across the Central and Northern regions—projects that supported the electrification of emerging communities and industries during a period of rapid national development.

Transmission & Distribution Leadership

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, EEE evolved as a turnkey Transmission & Distribution specialist—designing and executing high‑voltage substations, cable networks, and overhead transmission lines up to 400 kV. This work established a reputation for disciplined EPC delivery and dependable commissioning across the nation’s expanding power grid.

Interconnecting the Emirates

A defining chapter in EEE’s history was its role in strengthening inter‑Emirate connectivity. In 1997, the company delivered overhead line works for the West Coast interconnection at 220 kV and 132 kV, improving grid reliability and enabling power exchanges across regions. In 2005, EEE contributed to the first Emirates National Grid overhead lines at 400 kV and 220 kV, further integrating the country’s electricity system and enhancing national energy security.

Substations — A Record of Delivery

EEE’s substation heritage reflects sustained, large‑scale contribution to the UAE grid. Over the decades, the company completed 50+ Substations numbers of 132/11 kV substations on a turnkey basis, alongside numerous complex brownfield upgrades and commissioning activities that maintained system stability during growth and modernization.

High‑Voltage Cable Networks

EEE’s cable works span critical corridors across the UAE, covering the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of underground power cables up to 400 kV. The company’s legacy includes more than 5400+KM of 132 kV cabling, integrating pilot, telephone, and fiber‑optic links that underpin protection, control, and communications across the network.

Overhead Transmission Lines — Regional Firsts

EEE’s overhead line heritage includes milestone achievements that reshaped the nation’s skyline. Notably, the company delivered the Middle East’s first 400 kV monopole overhead line—an innovation that enabled a more resilient, compact transmission footprint at the highest voltage levels.

Selected Historical Highlights

  • West Coast Interconnection (1997): 220 kV and 132 kV overhead line interlinks that advanced system reliability across the Northern Emirates.

  • Emirates National Grid (2005): 400 kV and 220 kV overhead line developments supporting nationwide grid integration.

  • 132/11 kV Substations (50+ Nos): Decades‑long program of greenfield and brownfield substations across the UAE.

  • 132 kV Cable Networks (5,400+ km): Extensive underground transmission corridors strengthening power delivery and communications.

Enduring Contribution to the UAE Grid

From overhead interconnections to substation programs and thousands of kilometers of high‑voltage cabling, EEE’s historical works form a significant part of the nation’s electricity backbone—projects that have enabled urban growth, industrial expansion, and inter‑Emirate energy cooperation for nearly five decades.
